Arsenic and Old Lace is a classic play albeit with a few racy lines written before we were sensitive to diversity and diplomacy.  After studying at the Globe in London, I was inspired to write this "Woosh" - a game in which students become the characters and act out the whole show in less than ten minutes.  It's great as an introduction to a new piece of literature, especially something challenging like Shakespeare.

When I performed dramaturgy services for the production of Steel Magnolias at Murfreesboro Center for the Arts, I created an actor's packet with resources for the actors to motivate them to perfect their accents, understand their characters, and learn more about the background of the setting, characters, and plot of the production.  I did the same for a production of Othello.  These packets really help the actors to study their roles without doing extra (inconsistent) research on their own.

I have adapted several novels and short stories for the stage.  These have all been performed in community theatres or at the high school level.

I directed Pride and Prejudice in 2017.  As much as I love the play's period, I felt it might be fun to set it in the 1920s when folks pretended that rules and etiquette were out the window, but they were really as relevant--or irrelevant--as ever.  This is the proposal I created for the executive director of the theatre.

During the Pandemic, I had extra time to focus on my college students, so I designed this website full of videos to help my college classes to use MLA formatting more effectively.  This website serves as a resource to them as they navigate the rough waters of MLA!  These were edited using Playposit and Camtasia, 2020-2021.  In anonymous feedback, students often comment on the convenience of these videos.

I researched and wrote this grant in 2019 for which we procured over $10,000 in funds to revamp the lighting in the Smyrna High School Theatre.  I also worked one-on-one with a local lighting and sound company to stretch that money as far as possible.  The result was a lighting award nomination from the most prestigious theatre company in the state, TPAC, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

After visiting Hampton Court in 2017, I became interested in the history behind the six wives of Henry VIII.  I wrote a historical fiction play that accurately recounts their struggles with his narcissism and corruption through the eyes of a fictional lady-in-waiting to the Queen.  I wrote this before Six!  I sure wish I had made it a musical!

I designed and created this website in 2020 for Smyrna High School Theatre.  The website keeps the community up to date on the SHS Theatre department and its courses and productions.

Remember when Buzzfeed was a classic place to learn new things, get recommendations for travel, and just read run lists? I created this article for Buzzfeed in 2016 during my first summer in London.

This video was created in Camtasia to instruct my colleagues regarding filming themselves for a virtual awards ceremony, April 2021.  In 2020, thousands of educators found themselves in a very technologically advanced world where everything they had to do had a digital stamp on it.  I constantly created videos and guides to help them navigate this unfamiliar territory.

A playbill is a large document that usually consists of eight or more pages of text, graphics, and pictures.  It is used to give legal acknowledgement to authors or arrangers of a work of (often musical) theatre.  This is the playbill I built for a production of Addams Family for Rutherford County Schools, March 2020 (the production opened one week before the world shut down!!!!).

I have adapted several novels and short stories for the stage.  Work that is in the public domain can be adapted for the stage without paying royalties to an author.  This can be beneficial to community theatres that may need a financial boost or theatre programs that are in their startup phase that do not have much money. These have all been performed in community theatres or at the high school level, 2017-2020.

The Gospel at Colonus is an unusual musical that is an adaptation of the Oedipus trilogy.  A full dramaturgy casebook helps the director and actors with consistent research in the characters, author, settings, language, and subtle nuances in the script.  This document is an example of a dramaturgy casebook.  Caveat:  This is one of the few resources on this page that was only used in an academic capacity and never a professional one, 2018.

In addition to curriculum development, content writing, and instructional design, I also enjoy writing about unique local food and cocktail establishments.  During the pandemic, people were keen on finding restaurants with outdoor dining, so I began this website to help folks to find places where they could safely dine outdoors.
